PROGRAM FRAMEWORK

We use the 5C’s Theory of Positive Youth Development to create our programs.

Research shows that if youth have a strong sense of competence, confidence, connection to and compassion for others and are able to build strong character, they grow into healthy and productive adults.

There are 10 key components of effective youth development and the five outcomes that help develop youth holistically, which align with the work of the LeaderShop. The 5C’s Framework is “used widely by youth programs and policy makers in the United States and approximately 60 nations around the world” (Harvard University SEL).

N

Competence

We help youth increase a sense of competence by providing opportunities to learn new information and skills to prepare them for life.

N

Confidence

We provide opportunities for youth to use these acquired skills to enhance their confidence.

N

Connection

We give youth the chance to build strong connections with diverse peers, older teens, and adults who come from different schools, communities, and backgrounds.

N

Compassion/Caring

We provide kids a chance to serve others which increases their senses of compassion and caring.

N

Character

And, we help youth build character through learning the importance of responsibility, respect, trustworthiness, and caring.
