SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Here at The LeaderShop, we strive to promote positive mental health in all of our programs.
We give youth the opportunity to build positive friendships with their peers, engage in leadership and service activities that allow them to build confidence, and we also guide youth to make good decisions by facilitating activities about bullying, substance use, and more.
To help youth build a variety of skills and characteristics, our program activities are guided by the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards. Each month, there is a different theme chosen (e.g. kindness, service, gratitude) and SEL activities are facilitated according to the theme.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to:
- recognize and manage their emotions
- demonstrate caring and concern for others
- establish positive relationships
- make responsible decisions
- handle challenging situations constructively.
When planning our programs, we implement activities that encourage youth to reflect on and manage their emotions. All of our programs include a social-emotional learning component to them.
